Las Casuelas Original
About This Spot
Stepping into Las Casuelas Original in the heart of Palm Springs feels like slipping into a vibrant local story that’s been unfolding since 1958. The energy here carries a warm, familiar hum—part neighborhood gem, part lively gathering spot—where the pulse of midcentury modern California meets the inviting spirit of traditional Mexican hospitality. Whether you choose to settle inside with its vintage-inspired decor or soak up the desert air on the patio, there’s a steady rhythm of conversation, laughter, and clinking glasses that makes you feel instantly at home.
The pace here strikes a comfortable balance: unhurried enough to savor the moment, but spirited enough to keep the experience engaging. Waitstaff glide through the space with attentive ease, ensuring you’re looked after without ever rushing the meal. In the background, soft Spanish melodies blend effortlessly with the buzz of the room, grounding the atmosphere in a genuine cultural embrace.
The culinary experience at Las Casuelas Original is deeply tied to this atmosphere. It’s not just about what’s on the plate, but how the flavors invite you to share stories and make memories. You might find yourself reaching for a perfectly balanced margarita, its citrus tang catching the sunlight as you sample chips kissed by a salsa bright with fresh, lively notes. The food that follows offers a comforting yet spirited exploration of Mexican classics—from richly layered enchiladas to the satisfying crisp of freshly made tacos—each bite serving as an invitation to slow down and savor.
Portions here tend to be generous, reflecting a hospitable generosity that encourages lingering and laughter. The mix of familiar favorites and thoughtful details in preparation speaks to a kitchen that honors tradition while engaging with the present day. It’s a place where the flavors feel authentic without pretense, and the focus remains on genuine connection—whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply catching a laid-back lunch with friends.
Ultimately, Las Casuelas Original doesn’t just offer a meal, but a moment—a little window into Palm Springs’ rich local tapestry, where food, people, and place converge in a spirit that’s both timeless and warmly welcoming.

Good Mexican restaurant in the downtown area of Palm Springs. The service was really what made it for me and our waiter was super good at checking in on us while we were outside. The smothered burritos are pretty good and overall a classic straightforward type of Mexican restaurant. We were celebrating a special occasion and got their fried ice cream as a treat!

A Palm springs original. Kind of loud with poor acoustics. Great salsa and attentive staff. Premium prices standard Mexican food

We really enjoyed this place. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The chips and salsa and our entrees were really good and the portions were large. The staff was also very friendly and attentive. The restaurant has been around since 1958 and it fit nicely in the vibe of Palm Springs' mid-century modern design. We'll definitely go back!

We had the joy of experiencing some delicious burritos and chili rellenos for lunch and could not have been more pleased. The service we received from the moment we entered and were seated up until we received our delicious meal and headed back home was exceptional. The staff was courteous, kind, expedient and professional. The food was delicious and the faint Spanish music playing in the background created the perfect ambiance for a wonderful afternoon getaway for my lady and I. If you are in search of a nice place to drop in and have a wonderful meal at a restaurant with friendly staff and delicious food, then look no further than Las Casuelas. You can thank me later. :)

I like to visit during my work trips since it's walking distance. I always get the enchiladas. I usually like to get one beef and cheese enchilada but, unfortunately they still charge you for 2 beef. The surcharge pricing is very unfair for food you're not actually eating. The tacos are quite small here. I like the chips and salsa. Overall, the food tastes very good.

The is the original location that would spawn the other great Las Casuelas dining venues in the Coachella Valley. It is less touristy and quieter than most downtown restaurants. The food is genuine and good. The service can be slow sometimes. They have outside seating too.
